Trichomoniasis-The Most Common Curable STD in Women

Trichomoniasis is the most common curable STD in young, sexually active women.   The CDC An estimates that there are 7.4 million new cases each year in women and men.

Trichomoniasis is a parasite and is a sexually transmitted disease acquired from having sex without a condom or a barrier.  It can be transmitted from penis to vagina penetration and also from vagina to vagina.  Women can get trichomoniasis from men or from having sex with women.  Men usually contract the infection from women.

It does not cause many problems for men, but ladies, watch out!!! Trichomoniasis can cause greenish/yellowish frothy stuff to come out of the vagina, vaginal itching, irritation, and a bad smell.  An infection with trichomoniasis means that you are at an increased risk of being infected with HIV.

Although trichomonas can be treated with medication, do your best to avoid infection completely by practicing safer sex and by using barriers when you are with a partner with an unknown HIV/STD status
