HIV Home Testing Kit
At this time the FDA has only approved one HIV home testing kit. This product is a kit marketed as either “The Home Access HIV-1 Test System” or “The Home Access Express HIV-1 Test System.” For this test you prick your finger and apply a drop of blood from the finger prick to the test card. You then mail the card in to the testing laboratory. Seven days later you call the toll free number, give them your test kit product code, at this time they will give you your results over the phone and they will also provide you with counseling.
If you are anxious, you can purchase the Express kit and you will get your results back in three days. The best part of this process is that they will email or mail the results to you so that you can show your partner that you are currently HIV-Free.
The product retails for around $45.00 and you can purchase a 2-pack and complete the kit as a romantic interlude for around $75.00. For more information visit HomeAccess.com or call 1 800 HIV-TEST.
Now, keep in mind that the antibodies to HIV will take anywhere from six weeks to six months to appear. So a negative HIV test is really ONLY negative if your last unprotected sexual experience happened more than six months ago.
So if you or your partner test negative, CHECK THE TIMELINE BEFORE YOU CELEBRATE, and before you decide to stop using condoms!
